Architecture of Sound ImmersionArts
Now in its fourth year, this is one of our favorite ImmersionArts camps to facilitate! Participants explore the science of sound as well as how music is "built" through guided explorations in vocal and instrumental music making. Topics include physics of sound, cymatics, instrument making, loop pedal composition, an instrument "exploratorium" and more, as well as sessions in movement, art and architecture facilitated by guest teaching artists. Special guests include Thereminist Bobby Skinner and Sonic Painter Marcus Brown bringing interactive demonstrations. Time for whole group music, movement and visual arts is balanced with time to explore a variety of hands-on centers including a variety of design and construction manipulatives as well as outdoor play. Information and registration details available soon!
Young Muses Summer Band Camp for Girls Ages 10-17
Now in its second year, Young Muses is a non-audition music day camp for young ladies ages 10 to 17 to explore vocal and instrumental music with peers in a fun, supportive atmosphere culminating in a performance with special guest artists. Piano/keyboard, drum set, microphones and amplifiers for bass and guitar will be provided during rehearsals. We'll dig into various styles--blues, rock, Latin, swing and pop--with an emphasis on New Orleans sounds. Girls who have studied at least one year on horns or strings may bring those as well if they choose.
